Ali Chant is an English record producer, mixer, engineer and guitar player originally from London and based in Bristol. Starting his career as guitarist and songwriter of Bristol band Actual Size in the 2000s, Ali and the band signed to Gut Records.[1] The demos which led to the band's signing were recorded by Chant, and the group went on to spend a portion of their recording advance building their own studio in Bristol. Based in a vaulted Georgian basement in the St. Pauls district,[2] Toybox Studios became one of the most popular independent studio's in town.[3][4][5][6][7]

Chant has worked with PJ Harvey,[8] Perfume Genius,[9][10] Youth Lagoon,[11][12] Soccer Mommy,[13][14] KT Tunstall,[15] Gruff Rhys,[16][17] Aldous Harding,[18] and many others.

Ali Chant's main instruments are guitar, bass, vocals, percussion and keyboards and is known for working with predominantly analogue equipment. He was a guitarist in the Universal signed Bristol act Termites from 2003 - 2010,[19][20] and is an occasional performer in Adrian Utley of Portishead’s guitar orchestra.[21]
