The screenplay was written by Hazenberg and Fergus O'Fay, with additional material provided by Ruiz, Zach Klinefelter, and Dustin Weshoft. Benjamin Barton also contributed as a script consultant. It premiered at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival as an official entry in the Independent Film section and opened to limited cinemas on July 17, 2009.
