Heather is a fictional character in the Teletoon and Cartoon Network television series Total Drama. Voiced by Rachel Wilson, she was created by Tom McGillis and Jennifer Pertsch as the series main antagonist. Upon arrival to the competition, she establishes herself as a strong competitor, manipulating her teammates to her favor. However, she also exhibits ruthless behavior, such as stealing, lying, and criticizing other's appearance, their intelligence, and their usefulness in the game. Because of this, she becomes the most hated of the group and makes several enemies, including fellow contestant Gwen and Leshawna. As the series progresses, Heather manages to win favor with several contestants - mainly Cody and Harold - in season three, becomes one of the least despised of the group.

She managed to place third in Total Drama Island, ninth in Total Drama Action, and won the top spot in Total Drama World Tour.

Characteristics

Heather was described by Mark Thornton as "an evil, scheming, sinister character". Her only concern is winning the prize money from competitions and achieving fame and fortune. She is very manipulative, using the contestants' secrets and weaknesses against them. Heather also uses force to get what she needs. She has a general fear of sumo wrestlers.[1]

Storylines

Total Drama Island

Heather arrives in the series as a contestant determined to win at all costs. She is placed in the group "The Screaming Gophers" and quickly forms an alliance with teammates Lindsay and Beth.[2][3] She set rules for them that, for the most part, benefit her and put them at a disadvantage. She uses this alliance to help gather votes against a player she wants voted off. Heather also utilizes tactics to persuade other teammates to do vote for the teammate of her choice, especially when she has crossed the line with her bad behavior.[4] Heather manages to win immunity several times during the games, allowing her to avoid elimination by her teammates. She quickly becomes enemies with Gwen and Leshawna and results in a back and forth battle between them. Her alliance with Beth deteriorates as Beth grows tired of her demands and nasty attitude, resulting in several fallouts where Beth teams up with some of the other girls.[5][6] She eventually gets voted off by Heather, but the fallout results in the others keeping a vigilant eye on her.[6] She continues her alliance/fake friendship with Lindsay, who was almost kicked out for helping the girls in locking her in a freezer.[6]

By the halfway point, Heather tries to form an alliance with Bridgette to replace Beth, but fails as Bridgette takes sides with Gwen and Leshawna.[7] Heather decides put an end to any existing alliance by any means necessary; she causes Gwen and Trent to break up by making out with Trent.[6] Meanwhile, her alliance with Lindsay begins to deteriorate as Heather continues to berate her and use her as a personal slave. The partnership ultimately ends with Lindsay elimination, which Heather shows no sign of regret ad dismisses her friendship. This leads Lindsay to call her a number of expletives, as well as a "two-faced, backstabbing, lying little" user.[8] Approaching the finals, Heather begins teaming up with Duncan, Owen, and Gwen to win the weekly challenges.[9][10][11] By the season's end, she has advanced to the final three. During the challenge "I Triple Dog Dare You", Gwen and Owen team up against Heather to have her eliminated. She loses the challenge after being dared to shave her head, which she refuses but accidentally happens.[12]

Total Drama Action

During the last episode of Total Drama Island, a challenge was set by Chris to earn $1 million. When the prize money was eaten by a shark, the fourteen contestants that had the money, including Heather, were chosen to appear in season two of Total Drama, titled Total Drama Action.[13] Because of her actions in the first season, she becomes unpopular with the other contestants, with no one wanting to partner up with her. However, she receives assistance, albeit unwelcome, from Harold. She is later selected by Gwen to be on the "Screaming Gaffers", with Leshawna citing "keep your enemies closer".[14] Heather takes on a less authoritative role in the season, while still remaining vocal of her issues. Heather suspects that Gwen is throwing challenges in favor of the other team - The Killer Grips - but is ignored by the others when she relays her suspicions. Her suspicions are eventually confirmed and Gwen is ultimately eliminated.[15] Upon learning of Leshawna's lie, Heather and the other "Screaming Gaffer" teammate began shunning her out. She eventually warms up to her after hearing her talk about everyone, stating that she "told it like it is". Heather is later voted off after Leshawna's cheer won Duncan and Harold's favor.

In the TDA Aftermath episode, Heather is reveal to view Beth as a threat, Courtney as a worthy competitor, and Lindsay as .[16] Since being eliminated from the show, Heather and Gwen began an online feud, which perpetuated into a televised catfight. Upon arriving at the Gemmie Awards, she, along with the rest of the cast, are rejected entry by Chris and Chef Hatchet, deeming them "not famous". The cast decided to pursue another chance at reality show fame by chasing after the bus that holds the new cast for Chris's new reality show.

Total Drama World Tour

Heather is brought back for season three of Total Drama, entitled Total Drama World Tour. She tries to form a friendship with Sierra - a new contestant that is a crazed Total Drama fanatic - as a way of advancing in the competition. She is placed in the second group - Team Amazon - with Gwen, Courtney, Cody and Izzy.[17] During this season, Heather works to regain an authoritative and dominant role in the competition, orchestrating moves that allow for her team to win, while trying to prove herself as a valuable member of the team. Her attempts are somewhat halted by other members of Team Amazon - namely Gwen and Courtney - as they still believe her to be untrustworthy.[18] Heather grows to become a formidable competitor as she continues to help Team Amazon win challenges. She also continues to form alliances with other competitors with ease as Gwen becomes the focal point of the team's anger following her kiss with Duncan.[19]

Many of Heather's strategies are foiled by the season's new competitor, Alejando. They share a similar drive to win the competition and orchestrate similar strategies to lure others into their corner. Both Heather and Alejandro develop feelings for each other during the season, but constantly deny them. She is easily annoyed by his successive endeavors to manipulate her feelings as well as his flirting with the other female competitors. By the season's end, she forms an alliance with him while trying to win the Serengeti challenge. They plot to distract the others with their awkward behavior while combining their intellect to advance in the final two.[20] However, the alliance is fake as she betrays him by getting Sierra and Cody to vote him off. They almost succeed in doing so before Sierra messes up and blows up the plane, prompting Chris to expel her from the game.[21] Alejandro discovers this and from then on it becomes an "every man for himself" relationship.
