Template:Use mdy dates Template:Infobox athlete Karissa Schweizer is an American athlete who competes in middle distance track events. Schweizer was the 2016 NCAA Women's Division I Cross Country Individual Champion.[1]
Early life and education
Schweizer grew up in Urbandale, IA and attended Dowling Catholic High School.[2] She was a 12-time All-State Athlete in Cross Country and Track and participated in a number of other sports.[3] In 2013, she qualified for the Nike Cross Nationals by taking fourth at the Nike Heartland Regional.[4] At the national championships, she placed 47th. She also placed 15th at the 2013 Footlocker Midwest Regional.
NCAA
Schweizer in currently attending the University of Missouri. At Missouri, she has qualified for the NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country Championships in 2014 and 2016, placing 155th in 2014 and 1st in 2016. By qualifying for these championships, she placed 7th at the Midwest Regional in 2014 and 1st in 2016. In cross country, she was the 2016 Women's Cross Country SEC Champion.[5] In the 2016 Outdoor Track season, Schweizer set a personal best in the 5000 m at the Mt. Sac Relays running 15:58.09 and placing 12th. She went on to qualifying for the NCAA Women's Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships by placing 4th in the 5000 m at the West Preliminary Round. At the championships, she placed 3rd to garner her first All-American honors. Schweitzer has also been recognized by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s as their women’s national athlete of the year[6]
Schweizer has become individual women’s NCAA champion at the University of Missouri since 1989 and the university's first NCAA cross country champion since 1955.[1]
