Kelley Weaver (born September 27, 1987, London, UK) ) is an American publicist and co-creator of the Pursecase, a fashion accessory that acts as a phone case and mini-purse.[1]
Weaver founded Melrose PR, a public relations firm based in Santa Monica, CA, whose clients include Athleta, Peets Coffee and Tea, True Food Kitchen, Free People and other brands.[2][3][4]
Biography
In 2012, Weaver and her partner Jenn Deese got the idea for Pursecase when they couldn’t find a wallet-style iPhone case to hold their phones. They created a prototype and in February 2013 launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funding. They raised $35,000 of initial funding [5]
Pursecase is a silicone case that fits the iPhone 4/5/6/6+ and Samsung Galaxy but with a design like a mini-purse with gold chain that users can hang on their wrist. The phone case opens to feature a slim mirrored compartment that holds credit cards and cash.[6][7]
After launching Pursecase, Weaver and Deese appeared on ABC show Shark Tank, a reality show where contestants compete before a panel of famous entrepreneurs for investment money. Weaver and Deese pitched Pursecase on the episode that aired November 22, 2013 to potential investors.[8][9]
Venture Capitalist Kevin O’Leary and QVC entrepreneur Lori Greiner made an offer to back Pursecase. Weaver and Deese accepted the offer made by Greiner to back them with $55,000 in investment capital for a 15% stake in the company.[10]
Weaver appeared on QVC alongside Greiner to introduce the Pursecase to viewers and sold 7,000 units through the channel.[11][12][13]
The Pursecase has been sold through Bloomingdales and Kitson and is currently sold in the U.S., Japan, Dubai, The Netherlands and the Philippines.[14]
