Laura Valdivia is an American television writer, producer, actress, and comedian best known for Graves, Outer Space Astronauts, Telenovela, and Ben and Kate.

Early life and education

Valdivia was born in New York, NY, and raised in Madrid, Spain and Houston, TX.[1]

Career

Valdivia co-produced and wrote the Epix comedy series Graves in 2017 and appeared in the comedy film It Happened in L.A. which premiered at Sundance Film Festival that same year.[2]

She began her career producing the feature film In Memory of My Father[3][4] and appearing in multiple film roles as an actress. She then appeared in sketch television shows Nick Cannon Presents: Short Circuitz and Mad TV in 2007 and 2008 respectively. The following year, she wrote for the MTV Movie Awards, the CMT Music Awards,[5] and the Syfy comedy series Outer Space Astronauts which was executive produced by David O'Russell.[6] Valdivia also acted in the recurring role of Andy Matheson on Outer Space Astronauts.[7][8]

In June 2009, she was featured in Lucky magazine as a comic to watch.[9] She wrote multiple episodes for the CBS sitcom series Rob in 2012, the Fox sitcom series Ben and Kate from 2012 to 2013, the Fox comedy series Weird Loners in 2015,[10] and the NBC sitcom series Telenovela from 2015 to 2016.

She was a speaker on the Nerdist Writers Panel in September 2015 with Marc Guggenheim, Corinne Marshall, and Evan Bleiweiss,[11][12] and in December 2015 with Andrew Miller and Ben Wexler.[13][14]

Valdivia has performed stand up comedy at venues across the United States, including at The Comedy Store,[15] Flappers Comedy Club,[16] The Ice House,[17] and The Laugh Factory[18] in Los Angeles, CA, StandUpLive in Phoenix, AZ,[19] and The Improv.[20] Creator of the Goddamn Comedy Jam stand-up show, Josh Adam Meyers, credited Valdivia and Sarah Tiana with starting the show and with the start of his own stand-up career at The Unknown Theater in Los Angeles in 2015.[21][22] The Goddamn Comedy Jam aired on Comedy Central as an hour-long special in 2016 and, following a successful reception, was then developed into the Comedy Central series The Comedy Jam in 2017.[23]
