Football biography

Markus Fjørtoft (born January 12, 1994) is a Norwegian soccer player who currently plays as a defender for Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer.


Prior to College

Fjørtoft attended WANG Toppidrett in Oslo, Norway. He was a member of the Bærum SK of the Adeccoligaen and played for Bærum SK U19s from 2011-13. In 2007 and 2008, he won the Norwegian Championship (Adidas Cup) with Bærum. In 2009, he won the Danish Festival Cup. Fjørtoft was a member of the Oslo State team from 2007-09 and the regional team in 2008. He captained the Bærum U19s in 2013 and Bærum B in 2014.[1]


Fjørtoft spent his college career at the Duke University. In his four seasons with the Blue Devils, Fjørtoft made over 70 appearances. [2]


On January 19, 2018, Fjørtoft was selected 45th overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by Seattle Sounders FC.[3]

Personal Life

Fjørtoft is the son of Jan Åge Fjørtoft, a retired professional soccer player. He has two sisters, Lisa and Sofie.
