Piet-Hein Out is a circus photographer from the Netherlands who was a member of the photo jury at the International Circusfestival City of Figueres in 2014.[1] He is considered to be one of the best circus photographers of the moment.[2][1]

Piet-Hein Out was born on October 24, 1981 in Wormerveer (Zaanstad, Netherlands). His fascination for wild animals combined with a passion for taking pictures brought him to the circus. Aged 15 he sold his first circus photo. In 2012 he celebrated a career of already 15 years as a circus photographer. So far he has only been working in European countries.[3]

Besides his pictures Out is a collector of vintage circusposters.[4] Amongst the vintage posters are also original painted poster designs made for the VEB Zentral Zirkus (=the East-German State Circus or Staatszirkus der DDR) and some original posters by the famous Friedländer printers from Hamburg.[4]

Piet-Hein Out his circus photography is used by circuses and artists for their promotion as well as being published in several international circus magazines and websites. Amongst the circuses that have used his pictures are well-known enterprises as Zippos Circus (UK),[5] Wintercircus Martin Hanson (Netherlands),[6] Magic Circus (Netherlands),[7] Freiwalds Menagerie Circus (Netherlands), Cirque Berserk (UK),[8] Cirque Medrano (France),[9] Circus Krone (Germany),[10] Zirkus Charles Knie (Germany),[11] Circus Louis Knie ([Austria])[12] and the Chinesischer Staatscircus (Germany/China).[13][14]

Equipment

Out started taking pictures in the circus with an old Praktica he inherited from his grandfather.[2][15]
