The Tactical Training Academy was founded in 2009 as a non-profit defensive tactics gym[1], working in close partnership with King County Juvenile Detention Center, the Union Gospel Mission, and Seattle's Youth for Christ, providing defensive tactics classes as a mentorship and healing tool for low-socioeconomic youth and women with domestic violence and drug abuse pasts. These classes quickly began to incorporate law enforcement personnel and an emergency preparedness focus as local businesses sought out the TTA Instructor team as a local resource.

In 2013, the TTA transitioned into full-focus emergency management due to increasing violent trends and the amount of clients interested in emergency preparedness services.

In light of their roots, the Tactical Training Academy still offers many of their services at reduced cost, including free classes held in multiple locations throughout King and Snohomish Counties called "The Underground".

The Underground and TTA Motto

The Underground a community outreach program of the Tactical Training Academy.  The Underground focuses around a wholistic ministry, touching the heart, body, and mind through free training programs.  The TTA instructor cadre believes the true identities of men and women are being drowned out by the battle in our culture.  By training in physical combatives, the TTA recognizes a way to encourage and empower individuals: "This confidence, strength of heart, and character building is necessary to every group: a coming of age ritual for young men, a confidence builder and self defense strategy for our women, a character building for our couples, and a renewal of strength and heart for those who are older in years."

In these classes, the Underground offers a belt system to encourage participants to advance in physical tactical ability, as well as mental and spiritual awareness.

The Tactical Training Academy has two main focuses: Home and Abroad.  In both of these areas, the TTA team desires to provide healing, preparation, and growth.  By teaching effective emergency preparedness tactics, the touch on all elements of physical training as well as awareness, prevention, mitigation and recovery.

This unique perspective is reflected in the Tactical Training Academy's motto: "Live Trained. Live True. Live Tactical." [1]

Clientele and Services

A vast array of clients seek out the Tactical Training Academy for services, including local and international police agencies, county and city government agencies, security firms, Bail bond recovery agents, non-profits, housing authorities, and other private businesses.

The Tactical Training Academy outlines the following steps that can be taken in a place of business or as an individual.

  1. Risk and Vulnerability Assessments of facilities
    1. A full physical security analysis, climate surveys, evaluation of current policies, training documents, reporting standards, technologies, and other risks on your site.  Can be hazard-specific for violence or multi-hazard.  This includes a site-specific Mitigation  Analysis Report with recommended changes, options, tools, and other feedback (10-25  pages).
  2. Creation of site-specific Standard Operating Procedures or an EOP
    1. A great option post-risk assessment.  Creating a full-blown EOP for your company can literally take years (we recommend this as well!).  A site-specific SOP is much more manageable and might be a good first step (10-25 pages).  It is designed to be a training and resource tool for site-specific employees, and includes emergency annexes, communication protocol, critical resource maps, and emergency policies.
  3. Conduction of on-site drills and exercises
    1. After you have an SOP, practice it.  The TTA can conduct small drills or coordinate multi-agency full-scale scenarios on your site.
  4. Taking more advanced training certification classes
    1. The TTA offers on-site certification training in Active Shooter response, Emergency Management (Disaster, fire, flooding), First Aid/CPR/AED, De-Escalation & Restraining classes, Defensive Tactics, and other certifications (OC spray, etc.)  These classes can be 2-8 hours in length.
    2. The TTA offers these classes to the public as well: if enough individuals sign up or express interest in a given area, they’ll host a class.

The Tacitcal Training Academy emphasizes training over all other elements, because, "At the end of the day, no matter how good your analysis was or how standardized your plan is, it is going to be YOU who has to act.  And we want to empower you to act correctly, even in the face of serious odds."[1]
