Tarzan is an upcoming American action adventure film directed by David Yates, and written by Stuart Beattie, Craig Brewer, John Collee and Adam Cozad, it is based on the fictional character Tarzan created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The film stars Alexander Skarsgård as the title character and Margot Robbie as Jane Porter.

The film is set for a July 1, 2016 release.[1]



On April 10, 2013, Deadline confirmed that the studio has shut down the production office for the film, the studio is planning to start production in 2014.[5] On February 11, 2014 Warner Bros. announced that the film will be released on July 1, 2016 in 3D and that the pre-production has officially begun.[1]


On March 6, 2013 it was announced that Jessica Chastain may be the female lead in the film, she will play Jane Porter in the Tarzan reboot.[6] In April 2013 Jamie Foxx was circling for third lead.[5] On September 26, 2013 THR confirmed that Christoph Waltz is in negotiations to play the villain role in the film, he'll play as Captain Rom, a Belgian soldier who attempts to capture Tarzan.[4] Margot Robbie and Emma Stone are the names for the female lead.[4] On December 11, 2013 Samuel L. Jackson was in talks to join the reboot film's cast, while studio is still looking forward to Margot Robbie for the female lead.[3] On January 18, 2014 Margot Robbie joined the cast of the film to play Jane Porter opposite to Skarsgård.[2]
