The agency’s main focus is international brand development and communications. In particular, Unison specializes in working with nation-states and businesses hoping to gain a foothold in the U.S. market or attract U.S. business and direct foreign investment to their shores.

The agency's former clients include Smithsonian Institution, the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA), sweetgreen, USAID, Avalon Pharmaceuticals, brb (be right burger), Gold Toe-Moretz, Qatar Foundation, DFT, United Nations, Global Fund, Brown Bag and CAVA Mezze Grill.
President Robert Fardi and Creative Director R. Julius Talvik founded Unison in 2003.
Talvik and Fardi met at another Washington, DC-based interactive agency. Previously, Fardi had worked for Accenture and Talvik with Internet integrator Scient/iXL (interactive agency) among others.
The agency built its reputation working with clients in the Middle East, but has since worked in over thirty-five countries across the globe.
The company’s tagline has evolved over time. In the beginning, Unison worked under the tagline, “Good clean design.” This captured the agency’s early reputation as a design firm with minimalist sensibilities. Later, the tagline evolved with the growing company into, “Experience. Design.” This new tagline emphasized the broader palette of services the company offered, particularly interactive design and e-commerce. Currently, Unison operates under the tagline, “Brand + Digital,” which announces the company’s strengths.
Awards and recognition
In 2008, Unison received an A.R.E. Design Grand Prize Restaurant Award for their work for sweetgreen. In early 2012 Unison was presented with a 2012 A.R.E. Design Grand Prize Fast Food Restaurant Award, as well as a 2012 Gold ADDY award in Interactive Media for their work for CAVA Mezze Grill’s Bethesda, Maryland location.
Unison was awarded a 2012 Silver ADDY award in Interactive Media for their work with be right burger (brb).
Unison offers low-cost or pro bono services for non-profits and important global non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working on renewable energy, environmental sustainability, human rights, education, international cooperation, AIDS/HIV among others.
