Grimsby is an upcoming British spy comedy film with a tentative release date of 31 July 2015 in the United States. The film is to be directed by Louis Leterrier, and written and produced by British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen; he will also star in the film.
The storyline will follow a "James Bond"-like style spy who goes on the run with his long lost brother, a "moronic" football hooligan.
On 8 October 2013 Cohen travelled to Grimsby, Lincolnshire where he watched Grimsby Town Football Club in a Conference Premier game against Cambridge United, during which he mingled with locals dressed in a Grimsby shirt in several pubs before and after the game. It was reported shortly afterwards that Cohen was in talks with Phil Johnston to develop a film about living in Northern England, with Johnston also visiting Scunthorpe, Hull and Newcastle. Peter Baynham was also confirmed as a co-writer.
On 4 December Louis Leterrier was selected to direct the new film named "Grimsby" which was a secret-agent spoof film. A provisional release date was announced as 31 July 2015, with shooting beginning in the summer of 2014. On 14 February Paramount Pictures announced they would be the films distributor with Sony announcing they had picked up the worldwide rights.
