Advisory jurisdiction is the power of a court to interpret a law in the absence of a live case or controversy involving the law. In the United States, The U.S. Supreme Court has long held that the Case or Controversy Clause of the U.S. Constitution prohibits advisory opinions, beginning with Muskrat v.
