Alcomsat-1 is an algerian telecommunications satellite built in partnership with China Great Wall Industry Corporation. the satellite is to be launched before June 2017 on board a Chinese launch vehicle and will be placed at longitude 24.8w. Alcomsat-1 weights 5.8 tons ,Carries transponders working on : KU,KA,X,UHF and EHF bands and will cover north Africa . two controle centers were built in algeria and will be operated by algerian personnel formed in china, a commercial center was built in oran.[1]

History

the project of an algerian satellite for communications dates to the 80th and was reinitiated with the creation of the Algerian Space Agency in year 2002, a national workgroup was created in order to implement the project. multiple national and international counceling offerts won by a chinese company were announced to define needs in the fields of telecommunications satellites , It will enable algeria develop its communications infrastructures, democratize the use of modern technologies and promote the freedom of expression. It will asure autonaumy in fields of TV broadcasting , secured communications , VSAT, and internet access . alcomsat-1 will also be benifitial for other nations of the region.
