Template:Infobox golf tournament The Balcones Cup is an annual competitive, team-style, match play golf tournament contested between two teams from all across the great state of Texas. Players from teams Brazos and Trinity play three separate matches, each in different formats (Four Ball, Scramble, Singles), to earn points and ultimately win the esteemed Balcones Cup.[1]

The event is named after the Balcones Fault which separates the state of Texas and the team names are adopted from the Brazos and Trinity rivers. Team Brazos is represented by a green and yellow color scheme based on the colors of the Masters Tournament. Team Trinity is represented by a red and blue color scheme based on the colors of the Texas Flag.

Format

The Balcones Cup is a match play tournament based on the Ryder Cup style format. The first round is a four ball match followed by a two-man scramble match. Thirty-six holes are played on the first day of competition. The final day consists of singles matches. The scoring format was changed from a nassau style to a Ryder Cup style points system in 2017 to encourage closer scoring and also to help increase pace of play.

History

A record of historical events that have taken place during or leading up to the Balcones Cup:

The field is increased to 24 participants, doubling the size of the inaugural field and allowing more to experience the greatness of the Balcones Cup.[4]

In the inaugural Balcones Lit Par 3 Tournament following Team Reveal Night, Bo Rollins records the first hole-in-one in event history. Using a high loft wedge, his ball hopped twice and hit the pin to drop into the cup.

2016

Lawson Hopkins ends his international vacation early and flies back direct from Italy to compete in the 2016 event.

Carter Tamlyn and Lawson Hopkins become the only participants in Balcones Cup history to win back to back titles.

2015

Brazos Captain Nick Deaver chips in for birdie on the 17th hole of their scramble match to secure a one-point lead for Team Brazos heading into singles.
