Template:Infobox aircraft occurrence British Airways Flight 2276 was a scheduled flight bound for London Gatwick Airport, United Kingdom. It suffered an engine failure during takeoff at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport. The Boeing 777 aircraft was evacuated when a fire in the left engine (#1) started,[1] following a "catastrophic engine failure" and all passengers escaped with only minor injuries. Fire officials said 14 people were taken to Sunrise Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, including cuts and bruises, most a result of sliding down the inflatable chutes to escape.[2]
The FAA indicated the fire was caused by failure of the left General Electric GE90 engine, one of two fitted on the plane.[3] [4]
