Joseph Ikwan Ejim known professionally as Jay Ikwan pronounced Jay Iquan is a Southampton based singer, songwriter and rapper.[1] Originally from Nigeria, He is best known for eclectic contemporary styles of music and his non profit organisation.

Jay's musical style is experimental, an urban contemporary sound with a mix of Hip-hop, pop, afrobashment, afrobeats and gospel.

Early Years

Jay Ikwan was born in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria to Prince Ikwan Ejim Akuma & Princess Chinyere Ikwan Ejim ( nee Patience Tamunoprinye Nne Cookey-Gam ). His origin is from Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State. He is a descendant of His Royal Majesty Eze. Chukwu Oke Ukpabi, the first King and founder of Amogudu, Abiriba.

He attended Living Word Academy, All Saints Secondary School, Evangel Seminary in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria. He is also a Fullsail Alumni. Jay Ikwan was licensed in 2007 as a Christian Minister and served as a Lead Pastor and church planter before relocating to the United Kingdom. He has been actively involved in information technology, the music industry, and christian ministry for over a decade.

Jay's interest in music began at age 14 after he was sent to live with his uncle at Eagle Island in Port Harcourt. During this time, He discovered his songwriting skill. He is a self-taught drummer, pianist, guitarist and plays the saxophone. In 2006, he partnered with an independent production group and hip-hop label Blackworld Records to release an EP called "Kronikles".

Music Career

Upon his return from Eagle Island, Jay managed to form and become the lead singer of the Nigerian R&B Hiphop group "IMC". The group disbanded shortly and he started The Bone Squad which has given birth to notable artistes in the eastern part of Nigeria like Exnel and Mr.Razzy. [Jay has released 2 studio albums and one mixtape. The first, Kronikles , was on 31 March 2015 following the successful singles "Nothing Can Change The Love", "Hip Dance", and "Stunning Lady".  The second EP, The Awakening, was released on December 22, 2017. Jay has also released a mix-tape, "Stronger" following the success of the single "Olla Dem"] Jay moved to Southampton, United Kingdom in 2015 where he is currently based.
