Md. Jobaer Alam ( born September 1, 1982) is the Chairman and Acting Editor of The Bangladesh Today, a national daily English newspaper in Bangladesh. He is also an Assistant Professor at Dhaka University, Department of Oceanography. Born in Nilphamari, Bangladesh, Jobaer Alam is a graduate of Dhaka University, Vancouver Island University and Keller Graduate School of Management. In early student life he was a community leader in various athletic and cultural student organizations.

He joined teaching positions in different institutions before joining Dhaka University as a lecturer in 2009. Jobaer Alam assumed his role as the Chairman and Acting Editor of The Bangladesh Today in January 2013 after joining the Department of Oceanography in Dhaka University as an Assistant Professor.


Jobaer Alam was born on September 1, 1982 in Nilphamari, Bangladesh. He received a Bachelors and Masters in Science from Dhaka University , and m went to Canada’s Vancouver Island University for a Post-Degree Diploma program in Aquaculture Technology in 2008. In 2010 he completed his MBA Degree from Keller School of Management in New York, USA. He also completed a Summer Program on Global Climate Change from Harvard University in 2012.

Professional work

Jobaer Alam joined Dhaka University as a Lecturer in 2009 in the Department of Fisheries. In 2013 he became an Assistant Professor and joined the Department of Oceanography in Dhaka University.

He assumed the role of Chairman and Acting Editor of The Bangladesh Today, a national English daily in 2013. The Bangladesh Today founded in 2002 re-emerged under his administration as a modern newspaper.

Political Involvement

Alam was an active proponent of Bangladesh Chhatra League as a student in Dhaka University. As a teacher he remains an active member of the Blue group (Teachers’ association for Awami League) in Dhaka University.

With a long standing familial and personal popularity and involvement in his home district Jobaer Alam has future plans of actively joining politics.
