Nithin Raj (Template:Lang-ml, Template:Lang-ta, born 17 June 1987) is an Indian playback singer. Born and raised in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, he has sung in various albums and films. Currently, Nithin is working as a radio jockey with Radio Mirchi, Thiruvananthapuram, where he hosts a four-hour evening drive show called Mirchi Fuse Out. He is also the lead singer of The Q8 Band.[1]

Nithin performed in various singing competitions as a child and rose to fame in the year 2004 with his first solo album – Halo.The songs are composed by Balabhasker of which "Thiruvathira Thiruvarangil" and "Pyar chahtha hun mein" were quite popular. The Audio was released by Sathyam Audios and the song "Pyar chahtha hun mein"[2] was directed by noted filmmaker, Shankar Ramakrishnan.

He participated in various singing competition shows including CHANNEL[V] Supersinger, S5 Music Voice Hunt – SS MUSIC (2005), Star Vijay TV – Airtel Supersinger (2006), but it was through the Malayalam reality show Idea Star Singer (2007) that he shot to fame.[3][4]

He later on participated in Surya TV Amul Sangeetha Mahayuddham[5] which brought a new format in music reality shows in India where the competition was based on Teams rather than individuals. Out of the six teams, Nithin was part of the "Trivandrum Royals" team led by Vidhu Prathap, which secured the Runner-up position in 2010.[6][7]

He participated in BIG 92.7 FM's Benedryl presents BIG Golden Voice 2013[8] and reached the Final 4 in the all India level.[9][10]


Nithin has sung the backing harmonies for A.R. Rahman which include 'Puthiya manidha' (Endhiran),[11] Raavan [Re-recording for Hindi and Tamil] and also in his album songs – 'Semmozhiyaana Thamizh Mozhiyaam'[12] and 'Jai Jai Garvi Gujarat'.[13]

Nithin has sung various Malayalam movie songs which include 'Jwaalamukhi' and 'Thathamma' (Kurukshetra).[14][15] He got his first solo song 'Shapa soorya shobhayil' which was the Theme song of the Mammootty starrer movie – Drona 2010.[16][17] He sang the songs 'Pampara Pa Pa' and 'Karuthiku Thithai' from the 2013 hit Malayalam movie Amen .[18]

Recently Nithin Raj lend his voice for the Background music of Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal Movie directed by Lal Jose, where he sang the Old classic song "Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal" for Sekhar Menon's character (Vivek) in the film.[19][20][21] He has also sung the song "Asku Pasku" in the upcoming movie – Friendship[22] and the "MaGoBa"[23] song from the movie Mannar Mathai Speaking 2 directed by Mamas K. Chandran.
