Musical artist

Zachary Mwai Mwangi (born December 22, 1995), known as Proud Refuge, is a Kenyan-American Christian hip hop artist, songwriter, record producer, and actor. He is the president, co-owner, and co-founder of the independent record label GBA Records International, and the founder of the non-profit organization Mountain Movers Club. To date, he has released two studio albums, an EP as a solo artist, and several singles with features from various artists. He produced much of his earlier material alongside his cousin G.K music. Proud Refuge has stated that his music is hip hop/rap, though it reflects his Christian faith.

Early life and career

Proud Refuge's debut recording, Freshly Redeemed, was released in 2011 through Media House Ent. He began attracting attention when the Christian hip-hop platform Rapzilla launched his debut single "Sold Out",[1] produced by G.K music in 2016 which made 'joint of the week' and also received traction in Africa on Kubamba radio (Nairobi, Kenya) where it was No.1 for two weeks.[2]

His second solo EP, Mountain Movers Club, released in 2017, was also popular overseas, and was followed by his hit single "Trust and Believe.[3]
