The involvement of the Russian Federation in the Syrian Civil War has mainly been arming the Syrian Army.[1] On 30 September 2015, the Russian State Duma approved the use of troops in Syria to fight terrorist groups, the Islamic State in particual, at a request from the Syrian President Bashar Assad.[2]
