The Bloc is a health creative engagement agency based in New York. Founded by Susan Miller Viray and Rico Viray as The CementWorks in 2000, The Bloc is also a founding member of Indigenus, the largest independent global network of health and wellness communication companies.[1]

The Bloc offers services to health and wellness clients looking to build relationships with their customers. These services include strategy, branding, and relationship marketing for US and global audiences. In addition to developing communications for healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers, The Bloc also drives brand access and reimbursement through its payer service offering, The Bloc Value Builders.[2]

The Bloc is the publisher of HealthWellNext, an online thought leadership platform and twice-yearly print publication.

The Bloc was founded as The CementWorks in 2000 by husband and wife team Susan Miller Viray and Rico Viray in their New York apartment. In 2008, the company expanded to four agencies built on the principle of small entrepreneur-based companies: The CementWorks, The IronWorks, The StoneWorks, and The CementBond.[3] In 2010, the four companies merged to form The CementBloc.[4] In 2015, its leaders announced that the company had changed its name to The Bloc.[5]

In 2014, The Bloc was recognized by Advertising Health as the #3 healthcare agency worldwide. Additionally, the company developed three of the top ten most-awarded campaigns of the year—for Giazo, Girls Right of Way, and Happy Fuel.[6] In 2013 and 2014, The Bloc was the most-awarded healthcare agency in the United States,[7] recognized by CLIO Healthcare,[8][9] The Creative Floor,[10] The Global Awards,[11][12] IPA Best of Health,[13] Med Ad News,[14][15] MM&M,[16][17] PM360,[18][19] The Rx Club,[20][21] and DTC National Advertising Awards.[22]

In 2012, founding partner Susan Miller Viray was named “Industry Person of the Year” by Med Ad News.[23]
