Tonya M. Foster is an American poet.

Life

She was born in Bloomington, Illinois and raised in New Orleans.[1]

She earned a BA from Newcomb College, Tulane University, and an MFA from the University of Houston.[1]

Works

She is the author of A Swarm of Bees in High Court[2][3] as well as the poem In Tongues from 2015.[4]

Academic career

Tonya has taught at Bard College, Queens College CUNY, and Baruch College CUNY.[1] She is still alive today and she is currently an assistant professor of writing and literature at California College of the Arts.[1]

Awards

Tonya has received fellowships from New York Foundation for the Arts, the Macdowell Colony, the Ford Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, and the Graduate Center of CUNY where she is a PhD candidate.[1]
