Yahu Blackwell (born 1986) is an American Cruiser-weight boxer.

Early life

Blackwell was born in Baltimore in the year 1986[1][2] and raised by his mother Sandra Blackwell.[3]

Fighting career

Blackwell began boxing at the age of seven,[4] compiling a 156–28 amateur record,[1] as a cruiserweight, ultimately winning the South Atlantic Championship.[5] He lost his professional debut in 2009, breaking his hand, after cutting too much weight and reaching dangerous levels of dehydration[5] after losing thirty pounds in one day.[6] In 2014 he was named the number one contender by the World Boxing Union (WBU) for the WBU America and WBU Intercontinental title.[7] He later became the WBU novice world champion[1] and earned a top ten ranking within the organization.[5][8]

Blackwell has a 15–0 record in the International Boxing League (IBL),[1] including twelve knock-outs.[9] He has trained under Floyd Mayweather Sr.,[1] Freddie Roach, and Roger Mayweather.[10] He has also trained with Roberta Jalnaiz.[11] In 2016 he began fighting on Comcast Sports Net,[1][12] with an initial fight set for August 20, 2016.[13] On April 6th, 2017, Yahu Blackwell returned to the ABC knocking out 220 pound heavyweight pugilist Benjamin Hernandez.[14] He won with a one-two combination and a straight right hand in the second round, scoring a knockout victory over Hernandez in Tijuana,Mexico.

On July 28, 2017, Blackwell knocked out cruiserweight pugilist Alvaro Vasquez in the first round. Blackwell unleashed a 6-punch combination, beating Vasquez.[15]

Personal life

He is a supporter of the My Sister Cares Foundation in Cameroon,[5] where he has funded the construction of new orphanages.[17] In 2017, he released a mobile app entitled "Crypto Boxers, The People's Champ"</ref>.[18] In October 2017, Blackwell closed a deal with Rita's Italian Ice to open his first franchise in 2018.[19]
