Southerners are an ethnic group native to the various Southern states in the United States of America primarily descended from the British, French, and German settlers that arrived in the 17th-19th centuries. The Southern ethnicity was formed similarly to the Afrikaner ethnicity. Many Southerners have a Native American and African admixture. Several Southerners are descended from various Dutch, Finnish, and Swedish settlers from the New Amsterdam and New Sweden colonies.

After the American Civil War many Southerners left the South and settled in Brasil in settlements like Americana and New Texas. The descendants of these Southern settlers are still around today.
