Grimsby is an upcoming British spy comedy film with a tentative release date of 31 July 2015 in the United States.[1] The film is to be directed by Louis Leterrier,[2] and written and produced by British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen; he will also star in the film.

As well as Cohen, the film is co-written by Peter Baynham [3] and Phil Johnston and will be distributed by Paramount Pictures and produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment.[4]

The storyline will follow a "James Bond"-like style spy who goes on the run with his long lost brother, a "moronic" football hooligan.[5]

The film will see Sacha Baron Cohen play both lead roles.[6]

On 8 October 2013 Cohen travelled to Grimsby, Lincolnshire where he watched Grimsby Town Football Club in a Conference Premier game against Cambridge United, during which he mingled with locals dressed in a Grimsby shirt in several pubs before and after the game. It was reported shortly afterwards that Cohen was in talks with Phil Johnston to develop a film about living in Northern England, with Johnston also visiting Scunthorpe, Hull and Newcastle.[7] Peter Baynham was also confirmed as a co-writer.[8]

On 4 December Louis Leterrier was selected to direct the new film named "Grimsby" which was a secret-agent spoof film.[9][10] A provisional release date was announced as 31 July 2015, with shooting beginning in the summer of 2014.[11][12] On 14 February Paramount Pictures announced they would be the films distributor with Sony announcing they had picked up the worldwide rights.[13]
