ESMO Corporation ((주) 에스모) is a Korean company designing and manufacturing automotive wiring harnesses. ESMO Corporation was founded in 1994 and is headquartered in Ulsan City, South Korea. The company was previously known as Nexen Tech Corporation, a Korean mid-sized industrial company.[1]

ESMO Corporation has its Branches in Qingdao, China, Nanjing, China, and has started the construction of a new plant in Hanoi, Vietnam, which is exacted to start the production in April 2019.[2] The new plant in Vietnam, ESMO VINA, is expected to create over 2,000 jobs for locals in Vietnam with total investment of VND 700 billion.[3]

ESMO Corporation is listed on Korea's stock market and is constituent of the KOSDAQ stock index.[4] The company's main products include engine, main, engine room, body, roof, and door harnesses.[5]


Company History

Since the establishment of Taeheung company in 1994, which was renamed Nexen Tech in 2003 and further ESMO Corporation in 2018,[6] the company has been in the industry of automotive wiring harness for ICE vehivcles, later evolving into new business area of Electric vehicles and Self-driving vehicles.

Since 2003 the company has been a part of Nexen Group until 2018, when it became independent from Nexen Tire and was renamed ESMO Corporation. In 2003 the company established its first overseas production facility in Qingdao, China and in 2015 its second plant in Rizhao, China, creating over 1,000 jobs for the locals in total.[7]

In 2017 the company entered into a strategic partnership with the British power cord and wiring harness assembling company Volex plc. to further tap into EV market.[8]

In February, 2018 ESMO Corporation in cooperation with Jeju Free International City Development Center undertook the responsibility to create a high-precision map for autonomous vehicles to allow domestic and foreign auto manufacturers to use Jeju island's facilities for testing. For this purpose, ESMO Corporation established NDM to contribute to the goal of a carbon free Jeju island by the year of 2030.[9]

In July 2018 ESMO Corporation started the constructions of ESMO Vina factory worth $ 26.5 million[10] for automobile wiring harness manufacturing in Ninh Bình Province, Vietnam, to contribute to the economic growth of Vietnam and create over 2,000 jobs for the locals.[11]

Main Business Areas

ESMO Started out as a wiring harness provider company for gasoline vehicles, gradually moving to a new business area of self driving and electronic vehicles. In 2018 ESMO also set up a new business unit, NDM, with the goal to team up with US based voice-recognition startup company Apollo. The two companies are expected to work on a system that controls certain navigation tools though voice commands.[12]

ESMO Corporation provides wiring harnesses for small, middle, and large-sized passenger vehicles, commercial vehicle, special-purpose vehicles, and electric vehicles. Wiring harness is the unit that delivers power and electrical signals to various electric and electronic devices inside the vehicle and combines peripheral parts, such as electric wires and connectors.The company also provides Fuse & Relay box, Protectors, Dash grommet, and Door grommet.
