Abdülaziz Bayındır (born 1951) is a former Mufti of Istanbul who currently heads an Islamic foundation.[1][2] Bayındır served as a faculty member at the Istanbul University since 1997[no citations needed here].
According to Bayındır the prayer time calculation method used since the Ottomans are erroneous. He believes that prayer times can be calculated at Polar Zones (rather than using Mekkah-time) in line with his interpretation of the Quran [no citations needed here]. He claims Muslims in Turkey fast 70 minutes more than necessary because of this error. [3]He worked with Adnan Ökten, Istanbul University Department of Astronomy Sciences professor, in this project[no citations needed here].
