Main characters

Shirayuki

Herorine who was born and raised in the Tanburun Kingdom. Template:Nihongo was born with rare apple-red hair and escapes from the kingdom of Tanburn after its prince orders her to become his concubine. Independent and persistent, she meets Zen and befriends him after tending to his wounds. In Clarines, she is accepted as a palace pharmacist and trains under Garack with Ryu, falling in love with Zen over the course of the story. A smart and resourceful girl who is fully able to get herself out of the jams she usually finds herself in. She has a vast knowledge of medical plants and uses them practically. She is passionate about following her own path in life without letting it be controlled or influenced by others. In chapter 5 she became a Place Pharmacist Apprentice in Clarines Kingdom, Wistal Castle. She admitted her love for Zen in chapter 15. She became a full fledged court pharmacist in chapter 29. She moved into the castle in chapter 49. In chapter 53, she is reassigned and moves to Lyrias.

Zen Wistalia

Age 19. Met Shirayuki in a Clarines forest. Template:Nihongo is the second Prince of Clarines Kingdom and meets Shirayuki on a trip outside the castle. Shortly after befriending her, he is poisoned by an apple meant for Shirayuki (sent from Raji), but obtains the antidote with the help of Shirayuki. Over the course of the story, he falls in love with Shirayuki. He has blonde hair and blue eyes. He dislikes paperwork and would rather be out exploring his Clarines and meeting his people. Zen meets Shirayuki when he has snuck outside of the castle. He kissed Shirayuki for the first time in chapter 13. He has declared his intentions toward Shirayuki to his brother Izana. Zen is a charismatic leader that inspires people to follow him. He has three advisors he is very close to, Mitsuhide, Kiki, and Obi.

Mitsuhide Lowen

Template:Nihongo Age 23. One of Zen's closest aides. He originally wanted to serve as Izana’s retainer but the first prince assigned him to watch over Zen, and though their relationship was initially rocky, he is seen by Zen as both a close friend and reliable aide. He is extremely loyal though somewhat clumsy at times, and it is hinted he has feelings for Kiki. Mitsuhide is the only person Zen will do as he says and is overprotective of him. He was from the Sereg Knight Group before he became Zen’s retainer at age 17 (Zen was 13). He now has a very close relationship to Zen. Might have a romantic interest in Kiki.

Kiki Seiran

The daughter and heir of the Seiran family and her father expects her to return home to assume responsibility after her time serving Zen. She has a high level skill in swordfighting. Reserved and independent with a serious demeanor, Kiki is extremely loyal to protecting Zen (and later Shirayuki as she becomes part of Zen's life) and is most often seen with Mitsuhide. She may have a romantic interest in Mitsuhide as she confessed her intentions of eventually proposing to him to Zen.

Obi

Template:Nihongo is one of Zen's self-proclaimed aides. Originally sent by Marquis Haruka as a way to scare Shirayuki out of the castle, he later pledges himself to Zen after being discovered. It is hinted that he has feelings for Shirayuki, but his loyalty to both Zen and Shirayuki prevents him from acting out on his feelings.. Obi has a relatively mysterious past as a loner, but finds himself drawn to protecting Zen, Shirayuki, and their respective goals. He is often sent by Zen to protect Shirayuki when Zen is unable to leave his duties. In chapter 11 he officially became Zen’s Personal Messenger. Sometimes he uses the alias “Nanaki.”

He enjoys teasing Zen and initially takes issue with Shirayuki's closeness with Zen, but later comes to trust her after watching her handle the disease outbreak in Lyrias. In Lyrias, Izana pretends to be a palace pharmacist and takes Mistuhide’s name. While there, he and Shirayuki have a bonding experience by working together to find a cure for a strange disease.
