Template:Use British English Template:FictionPauline Monica Mole, née Sugden is a fictional character in the Adrian Mole series of young adult novels by Sue Townsend. She is the title character's mother.

She was born in 1945, and has two brothers, named Dennis and Pete, and an unnamed sister. Pauline was brought up into a devout Christian family among the potato fields of Norfolk. On a number of occasions Adrian describes her family as 'inbred'. She married to George Mole and from her parents' farm moved to Ashby-de-la-Zouch. When she was 22, she gave a birth to Adrian Albert Mole, who is her and George's first child. When she gave a birth to Rosie, she wanted to give her the name 'Christabel'. But, she decided on 'Rosie Germaine' - Rosie because it's pretty and modern, and Germaine because of Germaine Greer.

Pauline's siblings have only been mentioned few and far between. The first to be introduced was Dennis, his wife Marcia and their son, Maurice (The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13¾). Pete was mentioned when Pauline was on the telephone, after she found out Pete's wife Yvonne died (Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years). Her sister was mentioned in Adrian Mole: The Prostrate Years, when George mentions she and her sister went to the cinema.

Pauline had a relationship with Ivan Braithwaite but she returned to George after Ivan's death. In Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction, she and George are trying to rebuild an old house to their new home. Mysterious guy, 'the Animal' is helping them.

Pauline has been married five times: To George Mole; Martin Muffet; for the second time, George Mole; Ivan Braithwaite; and, for the third and final time, George Mole.

Her middle name - Monica - was changed to Hilda in The Prostate Years. Whether her name is Pauline Monica Mole of Pauline Hilda Mole is unclarified.
